Pressing

Fabric preparation by felting in Pray, in the province of Biella

Pressing is a process that is part of the complex and efficient fabric finishing process that Gar.Fin.Tex offers.
It is a way of preparing the fabric to provide it with particular qualities of consistency, compactness and insulation and consists in compacting through felting, making it waterproof in some cases also. The pressing process, as implemented by the Biella-based company in its large and modern factory located in the municipality of Pray, allows noble fabrics to develop a natural surface hairiness. The fabrics circulate quickly inside the fullers, special equipment that subjects it to  pressure, impacts and frictions, forcing the individual fibres to undergo a sort of transposition, deforming the fabric which then takes on an appearance similar to  felt.

Pressing

Pressing consists of treating the fabrics after they have been mended and can only be carried out on animal fibres. It allows us to obtain felting of the fabric by making the fabric itself dimensionally retract by a certain percentage, both in the warp and in the weft. All this serves to prepare a felt that is sufficient for the raising process. In order to achieve the objectives, the experience and skill of the operator, called folloniere, in managing the fabric and adjusting the parameters of the machine based on the type of fabric itself, are of great importance.
